First trout of the season

My first opportunity for real fishing this season came last Friday. I spent the afternoon fishing the Lower Longtown beat of the river Monnow. This was a successful first outing in which I caught four great wild brown trout. The first fish came shortly after I started from the run pictured.
The successful flies were a forward hackle snip and purple and forward hackle pheasant tail spider. The flies were fished as a team and fish upstream. I made short upstream casts with my 12ft tenkara rod and worked the flies in the faster water. The technique I used was similar to the Italian method Valsesiana.
